The Florida Panther’s Derek MacKenzie did it all but wear a cape Thursday night when he scored a diveing goal in the Panthers (30-23-14) 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets (33-23-12). This was an important game for both teams playoff hopes and with the win the Panthers maintained their position six points back of the Bruins who also won Thursday.
MacKenzie’s goal was truly amazing. After Panthers forward Dave Bolland blindly flung the puck forward right as he was drilled into the boards, Derek MacKenzie sprinted for the puck as it headed toward Jets goalie Michael Hutchinson. MacKenzie then dove forward and somehow swatted the puck past Hutchinson. Again, all MacKenzie was missing on this Superman goal was the cape.
