Rangers deal Predators third loss in a row with win Monday

Monday night two of the best teams in the NHL faced off as the New York Rangers hosted the Nashville Predators.  The Rangers (39-17-6) would top the Predators (41-16-7) 4-1, dealing the Predators their third consecutive loss.  On trade deadline Monday these are two contenders that are currently going in opposite directions as the playoffs approach.  The Rangers are 12-2-2 in their last sixteen games and have hardly missed injured goalie Henrik Lundqvist as Cam Talbot has stepped up and gone 9-2-2 since Lundqvist went down.

Conversely the Predators have lost three in a row and have dropped five of their last seven.  After the loss Predators Matt Cullen tried to temper frustrations.

“Anytime you lose a game you’re concerned. We have an eye on the big picture but at the same time we need to focus on what we have here. We need to dig ourselves out of it. We’re not playing as well as we can.”

Now that the trade deadline has passed it’s time for the true contenders to start establishing themselves.  The Rangers seem primed and ready, but the Predators look to have some work to do to get back to where they need to be.
