Mills, who drives for Niece Motorsports, hit the outside wall after contact from ThorSport Racing's Conner Jones. A fire erupted under the hood of the Chevrolet Silverado as Mills pulled the truck to the bottom of the track. He then went to a local hospital for evaluation as the Truck Series race continued.
"Matt Mills will again remain overnight at a local hospital for observation," Niece Motorsports said in a statement on Sunday afternoon. "Doctors continue to monitor Mills' oxygen levels due to smoke inhalation.
"Mills, driver of the No. 42 for Niece Motorsports, was transported on Saturday, (Oct. 26), and held for overnight observation after an incident in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
"Matt and team are thankful for the track safety crews, NASCAR medical team, and all hospital staff for continued care."

NASCAR penalized Jones for his actions in this incident. Officials held him for two laps on pit road. Jones then issued an apology on social media and said that he intended to apologize to Mills. He had not had the opportunity.
Mills, a Virginia native, is currently in his first full season in the Craftsman Truck Series. He entered the year with 23 starts split between a variety of teams, and he took over the No. 42 after Carson Hocevar moved up to the Cup Series with Spire Motorsports.
DNFs have disrupted four of the previous six races on the schedule and dropped Mills' average finish to 23.3. Before this stretch, he had posted one top-five finish and two top-10s. This includes a career-best fourth-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The Craftsman Truck Series teams have two races remaining this season. They return to action on Friday, Nov. 1, at Martinsville Speedway. This would be Mills' next opportunity to return to the No. 42 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado.
The Truck Series season ends on Friday, Nov. 8, at Phoenix Raceway. This race will determine the season champion.
