Four-star RB Stanley Hackett anounces verbal commitment

Big win for this school... for now.

One school received great news late on Thursday, as four-star running back Stanley Hackett (6-foot-3, 193 pounds, Pasadena, TX) of the 2018 recruiting class announced his commitment to Texas Tech.

Though only rated a four-star, Hackett had only one other offer so far: Tulsa. According to 247Sports, he also had interest from Texas and Texas A&M, but it looks like those schools are more focused on their 2017 classes for the time being.

However, it is not typical for a consensus four-star to have that few offers, even if he is a year out in recruiting. For comparison, recent four-star 2018 commits Cameron Rising and Justin Shorter had 20 and 16 offers, respectively, before they made their commitments.

The reason that is important? It will be interesting to see next year once the 2018 recruiting cycle starts to heat up. Do more big time programs start to offer the running back if he continues to impress the scouts? It is possible that a powerhouse offer could lure him away, but for now, the Red Raiders should be happy to have him with the program.

Hackett is the second commitment for Texas Tech's 2018 class.
