Police: A "reckless" shooting has left a basketball player dead and a football player facing a murder charge

A high school basketball player from Alabama has been shot in the head and killed, and a college football player from West Alabama University has been arrested.

Quentavious Reese was found shot in the backseat of a car in Alexander City, Al. on Tuesday night. He was airlifted to the  University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical, Center, where he died a day later.

Police announced an arrest in the case.

WSAF-TV reported that Parker was in the process of purchasing a gun when he fired it from a house and toward the street. At that time, the car Reese happened to be in was passing by, and Reese was hit.

Police detective Riley Foshee told WSAF, "From witness testimony, it was just a reckless act of discharging a firearm and just not paying attention."

Reese was a senior basketball player for Benjamin Russell High School. He was listed as a 6-foot-1, 170 point guard. Parker is a 6-foot-5 freshman who also attending Benjamin Russell, according to his bio on the West Alabama football page. There's no word on whether the two knew each other.

Reese, according to several reports. was out preparing for his senior prom when the shooting occurred.

WSAF reported that Parker was being held in jail in connection with a charge of murder.
