Former college basketball star reportedly shot in the middle of a pickup game

The incident happened on Tuesday night.

Chris Jones hasn't reached the NBA but that does not mean he isn't a well-known basketball figure, especially in the state of Kentucky. The former Louisville standout was dismissed during his senior season under Rick Pitino but, prior to that, Jones averaged double-figures on a couple of impressive Louisville squads and it was clear that he was a talented piece of the program. However, Jones narrowly dodged would could have been an even more perilous situation on Tuesday than it already was.

Jeff Greer of the Louisville Courier-Journal brings word that Jones was struck with two bullets while on a pickup basketball court in Memphis, which happens to be Jones' hometown. The report indicates that Jones remains in the hospital at this time but all signs point to the 25-year-old professional athlete being on a healthy path moving forward.

Jones currently plays professionally in France but was home during the off-season and, unfortunately, seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thankfully, he was not injured more seriously and it will be interesting to see what kind of details emerge from this troubling incident in the near future. Playing pickup basketball shouldn't be a life-threatening activity but this almost turned in that fashion.
