Four-star quarterback prospect Tyler Shough has decommitted from North Carolina, according to Don Callahan of Inside Carolina.

Shough currently ranks as the top player from the state of Arizona, a top-200 overall recruit and is the No. 10 pro-style quarterback for the 2018 national recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound senior has been committed to the Tar Heels since June, but took a surprise visit to Oregon on Oct. 4 and has since followed a number of Ducks coaches and players on Twitter, as previously reported by Diehards.com.

On Friday, Shough described the visit as “awesome” and “a lot of fun” during an interview with Andrew Nemic of Oregon Live.

“It was awesome. I had a lot of fun. It was really convenient for us – for me and my mom. My mom was born in Springfield, so we had family in Albany. We got to stay there for free, and we had free points from Southwest (Airlines). It was really convenient for us during our bye week. I had to go check it out, because the coaches have been pushing on me hard lately. I got offered about… I’d say a month ago, and then we started talking a lot more. I just wanted to check it out.”

Shough was the highest-rated commitment of North Carolina’s 2018 recruiting class prior to his decomitment. The Tar Heels had previously ranked No. 35 nationally and seventh among ACC teams prior to his decision.
