At 4-7, Notre Dame will finish with a losing record for the first time since 2007. And while there’s been plenty of chatter surrounding Brian Kelly’s job status and whether he’ll leave at the end of the year, reports offer a bleak situation at Notre Dame.

According to 247sports’ Travis Haney, Kelly would head to the NFL if there was an opportunity out there. On the inverse, the reason Notre Dame hasn’t moved on from Kelly is because there’s no clear upgrade, per the report.

It’s an embarrassing situation to be in if the report is true, but it appears Kelly will have another year to turn things around. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum was one of the many voices calling for Kelly’s head earlier in the year:

This is Kelly’s first losing season since 2004 when he was the head coach at Central Michigan.
