Despite Texas A&M's rise in the College Football Playoff rankings, and meteoric fall, reports note the Aggies could fire Kevin Sumlin in hopes of landing Houston's Tom Herman, according to 247sports:
"Industry sources agreed that it's totally conceivable that A&M power brokers would try to head off Texas to hire Herman - because it fits with the wild, wooly history between the schools. Just imagine the glee if the Aggies then took off and the Longhorns remained mired in the struggle."
After losing a handful of recruits during the offseason, Sumlin was perceived to be on the early hot seat. A strong start quelled those notions as Texas A&M jumped to No. 4 in the first College Football Playoff rankings despite one loss to Alabama.
But their collapse against Mississippi State and Ole Miss reportedly has Texas A&M on edge.
Sumlin won 11 games in his first year at Texas A&M, nine in his second year and has only won eight contests in each of the two seasons.
The mystic evidently hasn't worn off on Herman, despite two losses on the season — to Navy and SMU.
Sumlin's buyout is $15 million if he were canned this offseason.
