4-star RB Tavion Thomas turns down Ohio State in commitment to a perennial contender

He's really going to help this team.

New Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley is off to a promising start on the recruiting trail.

Riley and the Sooners earned a commitment from four-star running back Tavion Thomas on Tuesday.

Here's what he said:

First I would like to take this time out and thank God for blessing me (with) this amazing talent, ability to play the game that I truly love. Also, I want to thank all of my coaches, teammates, teachers and a special shout out to my beautiful auntie for really being here and taking me in as one of her own, no telling where I would be right now, I really  love this woman for loving me like one of her own ... and to everyone else that took me in as a family, thank you. It's been a rocky road but couldn't have done it without y'all support and love. Shout out `to y'all.  With that being said, I (would) like to thanks Coach Riley and CoachJB for giving me the chance to play the game that I truly love at the next level ..I would like to announce that my next 4 years will be spent at .....Oklahoma University. GO Sooners. Verbally committed.

Thomas is from Dayton, Ohio, and he thanked Riley in his tweet for the opportunity to continue his playing career.

Thomas is the No. 19 running back in the Class of 2018, and he is the No. 17 player from the state of Ohio according to 247Sports.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball has Oklahoma at 47 percent to keep Thomas, and it has Ohio State at 27 percent and West Virginia at 20 percent.

Thomas' recruitment is far from over, but his commitment to the Sooners at least gives them the siginifcant edge for now.
