Former ESPN and Good Morning America anchor Josh Elliott has been fired from CBS News after a serious on-air blunder. Page Six’s sources say that Elliott’s announcement was premature and CBS executives didn’t know he was going to quit his current digital job. On Friday, Elliot said on-air that he was leaving his job as the anchor on CBS’s digital channel CBSN for a broader role on CBS News.

CBS News released the following statement:

“CBS News and Josh Elliott are parting ways. Josh will no longer be reporting for CBS News. We are grateful for his contributions over the last year, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

Elliott joined ESPN in 2004 as a panelist for a couple of shows and served as a guest on Cold Pizza on ESPN2. He was also paired with Hannah Storm on the morning edition of SportsCenter starting in 2008 until his departure to ABC’s Good Morning America in 2011. He left ABC in 2014 to work for NBC until he left in December of 2015 to join CBS where he’s been until now.
