Urban Meyer under fire after use of bizarre recruiting tactics

Ohio State currently has the No. 1 class in the nation.

Recruiting is going well for Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes right now, but it doesn't look like everyone is on board with how he and the team are getting there.

Ohio State gained a big commitment over the weekend with five-star tight end Jeremy Ruckert, and after the commitment, this report from 247Sports and Eleven Warriors came out that Meyer had been recruiting Ruckert hard, including sending texts and letters to Ruckert's girlfriend and her mother.

"Coach Meyer texts me every day," Ruckert said. "He doesn't just text me, either. He texts my family and my girlfriend and sends letters to my girlfriend's mom. He really goes the extra mile to make sure my parents and my family after comfortable being with him the next four years, which is the most important thing."

Some people didn't think that was a good thing.

There does not appear to be any rules violations for what Meyer did, but some people appear to have an ethical issue with Meyer doing so much just to get a football player on his team.

Ohio State is currently ranked No. 1 in recruiting for the 2018 class by 247Sports.
