SmackDown Live took place in Dayton, Ohio this week that was highlighted by the return of WWE Smackdown Live general manager Daniel Bryan.

WWE Smackdown Live!: Results for Tuesday, June 13

  • The show kicked off with Ms. Money in the Bank Carmella and James Ellsworth. Carmella got nuclear heat as she addressed the controversial way she won the MITB ladder match Sunday night.

  •  The New Day come out next and cut a very good promo on the controversial finish to their match with The Usos. The trio want a rematch and are obviously upset about the way The Usos ran away to retain their titles.
  • Then Big E vs. Jimmy Uso is announced as the next match. Big E and Jimmy get a lot time as the rest of the New Day and Jay remain ringside for support. Both partners get involved throughout the course of this match that shows off both Jimmy and Big E’s abilities as singles competitors. Ultimately,  Big E wins clean with the Big Ending as the crowd celebrates the trio getting revenge. Interesting to see where they go in this feud from here.
  • Randy Orton and Kyle Phillips have an intense sit-down interview where Phillips asks Orton about his losses to WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. Orton is clearly upset about losing control and not being able to deal with the Singh Brothers and Mahal, but that it reminds him of his days with Evolution and Legacy. This feud is clearly continuing.
  • Ziggler vs. Shinsuke Nakamura is the next match and it’s a long one. This match felt like it got thirty minutes, with Ziggler working over Nakamura the same way as their Backlash match early on. The crowd was dead as Ziggler locked in rest hold after rest hold on the Rockstar. The highlight came when Ziggler hit an awesome ZigZag that got a two-count. The crowd finally got into the false finishes, and Nakamura ended things with his devastating finisher.
  • Kevin Owens Open Challenge might be the highlight of the night. Owens comes out and does great mic work, as always, and is opening up a John Cena-like challenge to anyone from Dayton, OH. First, AJ Styles came out and tried to challenge Owens, but Owens didn’t allow it. Then, Chad Gable of American Alpha came out and delivered a great promo that led to a title match against Owens. Gable came off looking legit and got great offense on Owens, but he ultimately came up just short. Gable really needed that moment.
  • Daniel Bryan brings out the five participants in the Women’s MITB ladder match where they have a great back-and-forth about what should happen. Ultimately, Bryan puts Ellsworth in his place and takes the briefcase from Carmella. Announces a re-do of the MITB ladder match next week on Smackdown Live. Would expect a surprise entrant in the re-do or Carmella winning it again, this time, though, legitimately.
  • Last is Jinder Mahal vs. Luke Harper in what was a snoozefest of a main event. Mahal is still one of the worst workers on the roster, and Harper couldn’t get anything out of him here. The match didn’t go long, with the Singh Brothers helping Mahal escape with another victory. Post-match Orton jumps Mahal and delivers a strong beatdown to the Singh Brothers. Crowd woke up for the final moments of the show.
