Following in the footsteps of Colin Kaepernick and other athletes around the country, East Carolina band members kneeled during the national anthem Saturday ahead of the team’s tilt with Central Florida.
The band was also booed during halftime.
Reactions were varied after the stance:
The move comes just a week after the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons changed things up by joining hands at midfield ahead of their Monday night tilt.
There has been plenty of controversy surrounding the national anthem protests, started by Kaepernick to take a stand against the oppression of “black people and people of color.”
The movement has shifted throughout the sports world, with some high school athletes laying on their backs with hands up and college athletes receiving alleged death threats.
