Colin Cowherd goes off the deep end, says the unthinkable about Nick Saban

Colin Cowherd isn't shy in the slightest.

Nick Saban began Alabama's Spring Practice with a bit of salt directed toward the media and the legendary head coach received some backlash from a particular on-air host. Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports addressed what Saban did earlier in the week with unmitigated thoughts on Alabama's leader and, in typical Cowherd fashion, he didn't hold back in the slightest.

Here is what Cowherd had to say, via SEC Country:

"He's getting cranky. I believe, he's starting to, on the back four or five holes of his life, sense his legacy, and it drives him crazy that Pete Carroll won in the NFL and college and Jim Harbaugh won in the NFL and is going to win a title in college. ... When we talk great coaches, we don't talk Bo Schembechler, we talk (Bill) Walsh and (Tom) Coughlin. We do. We never mention Woody Hayes. Nick Saban is frustrated, because he is looked at not as an all-time great (like) Jimmy Johnson, Pete Carroll."

This is a big-time leap from Cowherd unless he actually has behind the scenes knowledge but the smart money would be against that at this point. Still, it isn't the first time that someone posited that Saban has NFL-based regrets and another loss in the National Championship Game at the hands of Clemson won't do anything to dampen the notion moving forward.

Nick Saban is already on the short list of best college football coaches of all-time but there could be a possibility that not succeeding in the NFL bothers him. Anything firm in that way, though, should probably be held back unless Saban says it himself.
