Former college football player passes away suddenly at just 29

This is just terrible.

Alex Kube was a star at Northern Illinois from 2007-10 and was named a Freshman All-American by The Sporting News for his outstanding season that saw him lead the team in tackles with 111. That was despite missing the last game of the season. However, the Northern Illinois family is in mourning as Kube suddenly passed away at age 29.

Per the Daily Chronicle, Kube died at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at Rockford Memorial Hospital. The Winnebago County coroner's office did not list a cause of death, but said an autopsy will be performed today.

He finished with over 300 total tackles in his career and had two forced fumbles along with 17.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. Kube went on to start a business after his college career was over, and per the Chronicle, Kube had since become an assistant coach at the high school ranks.
