According to Orangeburg Times & Democrat reports. out of South Carolina, former Gamecocks quarterback Johnny Grambling passed away on Friday at the age of 85.
The South Carolina Hall of Famer played quarterback for the USC varsity team from 1951 to 1953. According to the Times & Democrat, Gramling was the first quarterback in South Carolina history to throw for over 2,000 yards in a career.
The Gamecocks went 7-3 in Gramling’s senior season in 1953, which is the year that South Carolina joined the ACC. Gramling also boasts a career 3-0 record over rival Clemson.
After his college career, Gramling played a year of football in Canada before joining the Air Force. He was inducted into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame back in 2000.
