Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines were affected, more than any program in the country, by recent legislation restricting travel during a "vacation period" for the student-athletes. However, it appears that Harbaugh and his staff have a new plan to get creative in providing their players with an intriguing trip. This time, it looks like Michigan will be visiting Rome at the end of spring practice. Yes, that is Rome, Italy.
The Wolverine brings word of the plans to send the Wolverines to Europe and the Detroit Free Press indicates this "could be the first of annual trips overseas, buoyed by U-M's international brand". Details for the voyage are unclear at this point, but this would theoretically give the players an even bigger and broader experience than the much-ballyhooed journey to IMG Academy in Florida during the spring of 2016.
This is, of course, the latest instance of Harbaugh turning his nose up at detractors and it will certainly play well with both Michigan fans and his players. It remains to be seen if the Wolverines can actually pull off a trip of this magnitude in a short period of time, but reporting indicates that it has already been in the works for some time. In short, don't put anything past Jim Harbaugh.
