Michigan was one of the schools in the running for four-star center Tyrone Sampson Jr. (6-foot-3, 295 pounds, Detroit, Mi.), but it looks like they are out of the running after Sampson announced his commitment to Syracuse on Tuesday.

Sampson is one of the top offensive line recruits in the country for the 2018 class, and he had already taken unofficial visits to powerhouses like Alabama and Notre Dame. In-state schools like Michigan and Michigan State were also considered heavy favorites, but according to Sampson, Syracuse just felt like the right school.

“Those are my guys, they just make me feel like I’m at home and I will have a great chance to play as a true freshman,” Sampson told 247Sports on his commitment. “I just have a great relationship with every coach on the coaching staff.”

Sampson is rated as the No. 3 center in the nation by the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the third commitment for Syracuse’s 2018 recruiting class.
