Report: Charlie Strong 'in negotiations' to become a head coach once again

This would be a fantastic hire.

It looks like it might not be Temple after all for Charlie Strong.

According to multiple reports, South Florida has really sped up the process with Strong, and the two are currently believed to be in negotiations to make Strong the head coach before the weekend.

Strong was fired after three seasons at Texas, where he was 16-21 with the Longhorns. Strong was previously successful with Louisville has a head coach, notably leading the Cardinals to a combined 23-3 record over Strong's final two seasons with the program.

Strong would be a great hire for South Florida, as Strong has connections in the state thanks to his past time as Florida's defensive coordinator. Strong would also likely come at a bargain deal for USF, as Texas still has a large buyout due to Strong after the firing.

South Florida is looking for a new coach after Willie Taggart landed the Oregon job following Mark Helfrich's firing. Taggart helped turn around the USF program, as the Bulls went 10-2 on the season. It was the first 10-win season in program history.
