In the late 1990s and early 2000s Miss Cleo hosted a popular late night call in show where she would dish out "psychic" advice to those in need.

The show, and Cleo's over the top presence, became pop culture staples, including the many prank calls materialized from the show.

Harris, who was born in Los Angeles, spoke to Vice in 2014 about the trials and tribulations of working for the Psychic Readers Network and the many rumors about her life that followed her.

"I have children, I have a family. My family took it very hard, because there's a lot of misrepresentation. According to some articles, I'm still in jail. I never went to jail; I didn't own the company. It's taken ten years for me to move through all of that, because in the Jamaican culture—especially with the way my father was—all you have is your word," Harris said.

"So it hurts for people to go around and be able to tell a lie to the point where it becomes fact on a [computer] box. So I struggle with it."

In 2006, Harris told the world that she was gay in an interview with the Advocate, eight years later she told Indie Wire about that life-changing moment.

"I'm as gay as a two dollar bill, same as you," Harris said.

"And I mean no disrespect, because I'm gay. And for a long time... Long before you were even born, in fact. And in the black community and the Jamaican community, that's not easy. Not at all. As a matter of fact, when I came out publicly in 2006, I lost a large portion of my family."
