One of the stars of WWE's tag team division on SmackDown Live could be on the sideline for a long time.
According to WWE.com, former Intercontinental champion Zack Ryder suffered a knee injury Tuesday's TV taping. The injury occurred during a team battle royal, which Ryder and his tag team partner Mojo Rawley had won in order to get a tag team title shot.
Per WWE.com:
"We think he injured his kneecap or his patella. We think it popped out and then popped back in, so we're just going to do an MRI to make sure that there is not cartilage damage or some tendon tearing, stuff like that," according to WWE's Dr. Chris Robinson. "Hopefully there's not and it'll be a shorter rehab period. If there is, there's a different road we might have to go down that may take longer to get him to recover."
In the video above, it looks like Ryder suffers the injury at the end of the match when going over the top rope. After winning the match, Ryder looks clearly pained and he tries to warn Rawley of the injury before celebrating.
If Ryder did indeed suffer a patella injury, he could be out for several months to recover and rehab. The injury would likely keep Ryder out of this year's WrestleMania, which is just four months away.
Ryder has been with WWE for 10 years. During his career, he has won the Intercontinental title, the U.S. title, and the tag team titles, all one time each.
