Thomas was arrested in January for a failure to appear for traffic violations charge after he was ticketed for going 94 mph in a 75 mph zone. A bench warrant was issued and his fine jumped to $321.50. According to Tulsa World, Thomas had been suspended twice for team violations during the season.

Thomas was named to the second team All-Big 12 after recording 42 tackles in 12 appearances, including five interceptions and five passes broken up last season.
