While a lot of the credit for landing Kevin Durant will go to the ownership and management team of the Golden State Warriors, there might be someone else Bay Area fans should be thanking. Jerry West and Joe Lacob clearly had a great presentation to Durant during their meeting, but it seems that one guy made an impression afterward.

League MVP Stephen Curry texted Durant after their meeting ended and assured him that he wouldn't screw up any chemistry the Warriors already had and that he would be treated like a brother of theirs. It was that pitch of unselfishness that seemed to have really done it for Durant as described by ESPN's Marc Spears:
Even so, Curry apparently felt it necessary to send Durant a message hours after the meeting Friday night to reassure him about his commitment to "Strength In Numbers" and unselfishness.
According to a person who saw the text messages, Curry told Durant in a text message that he could care less about who is the face of the franchise, who gets the most recognition or who sells the most shoes (Curry is with Under Armor, Durant with Nike). The two-time NBA MVP also told Durant that if Durant won the MVP award again he would be in the front row of the press conference clapping for him. In closing, Curry's message to Durant was that all he truly cared about was winning championships and he'd like to do that as his teammate.
It looks like Curry's humbleness and selflessness strike again. It may seem unfair yet the Warriors literally presented Durant with a genuine offer he couldn't refuse and now the Golden State Warriors look poised to be a dynastic team over the next several years.
