The search for a new athletic director has been a bit of a mystery as of late. There hasn't really been a front runner since North Carolina AD Bubba Cunningham backed out of the race for the position. There had been rumors that Kansas State's John Currie was the lead candidate and even that he was meeting with officials in Gainesville.

However, that rumor has been debunked by the man himself because he's in Dallas this morning for a conference.

And apparently there have been several candidates interviewed or at least talked to over the course of the search.
Florida has engaged and re-engaged several candidates since Bubba Cunningham changed his mind.

It looks like there may be a new leader in the club house right now though as FootballScoop is reporting that Mississippi State AD Scott Stricklin is believed to be the favorite for the Florida job now. Here's what they say about the situation:
Despite these reports (about John Currie), sources in profession tell FootballScoop that Mississippi State AD Scott Stricklin is considered the lead candidate and could be closing in on the job very soon.
Foley is set to retire on October 1 so having the position filled before that would be ideal. Foley has led the Gators to 27 national championships in 10 different sports so the shoes he's leaving to fill are pretty big.
