Chip Kelly responds to rumors about Oregon's now open head coaching job

Chip Kelly has spoken on the new opening at Oregon.

Mark Helfrich is no longer the head coach of the Oregon Ducks and the program is already being linked to several different candidates. One of those presumptive possibilities would be a reunion between the program and current San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly.

The problem, though, is that Kelly is already declaring in plain terms that it won't happen.

Obviously, the Ducks would be very excited to get back into the Chip Kelly business, as he was incredibly successful and popular during his time in Eugene. In terms of other options, Florida's Jim McElwain has already publicly denied any interest, while Ohio State defensive coordinator and former Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano has emerged as a potential target for Oregon. In addition, Oregon has reportedly narrowed the search to a particular brand, meaning that the Ducks are looking for a current power-5 head coach.

What we do know, though, is that Chip Kelly won't be involved in the search, except for the pledge in the video above to help in any way that he can. Mark Helfrich's firing wasn't exactly a surprise by the time it was made official, but the dream reunion between Oregon and its most successful head coach in history apparently will not be happening anytime soon.
