After the reports that Ohio State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tim Beck was departing to join Tom Herman at Texas, the Buckeyes didn't take long to announce a new hire. Just hours after that report, Ohio State made it official that they had hired former San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Ryan Day to the same position.

The interesting part about the hire is that Day has spent the last two seasons in the NFL with Chip Kelly, both in Philadelphia and San Francisco. If the Buckeyes are trying to open the door for Kelly to join the staff as offensive coordinator, this move could certainly be a stepping stone towards getting there.
Prior to joining Kelly in the NFL, Day was an assistant coach with both Temple and Boston College.
