The Auburn Tigers struggled mightily on both sides of the ball in the Sugar Bowl, and now, Gus Malzahn will go into 2017 with one less returning skill position player. On Tuesday, sophomore wide receiver Stanton Truitt took to Twitter to announce that he will be transferring for the two remaining years of eligibility that he can utilize.

Truitt's indication that he "was not able to show all (his) talents (he has) to offer" likely leans in the direction of unhappiness with his deployment and that is a familiar tale in the college football world. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound wide receiver from Atlanta generated ten receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown in his career with the Tigers and he leaves despite the expectation that he could battle for playing time in 2017.
With Jarrett Stidham coming to campus as a quarterback option next season, it will be interesting to see what Auburn does in the mold of its offense. The Tigers have deployed a run-based attack in the recent past, but Stidham is a prolific passer that was a big get for Malzahn and his staff, leaving the possibility that Truitt could have enjoyed a bigger impact. For now, though, Truitt's next destination will be of interest throughout the country and Auburn will look to fill his scholarship in a different way.
