Nation's No. 1 punter Ryan Stonehouse finally announces commitment

The top punter in the country waited a long time to make his pledge.

National Signing Day for the 2017 class has come and gone but that did not force the nation's top punter into a rash decision. Ryan Stonehouse is ranked as the No. 1 punter in the class according to the 247Sports composite and, on Valentine's Day, the potential collegiate standout announced his pledge to join the Colorado State Rams.

Because, well, he's a punter, Stonehouse is only a three-star prospect according to most sites but he received scholarship offers from high-level programs. Tennessee, California and Arizona, among others, reached out with interest but Stonehouse elected to go with Mike Bobo and the Rams.

With that in mind, he had this to say about CSU in speaking with Kelly Lyell of The Coloradoan:

"I love the coaching staff there; it's a great group of guys. I like the people around the area. I couldn't say anything bad about it.

"Colorado State to me is a great school, and ultimately that's why I made my decision."

Stonehouse, who stands at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, comes from a familial line of punters and kickers and that makes his performance all the more intriguing. There has been a recent rash of attention on the position, headlined by Marquette King in the NFL, but punting has always been extremely valuable and Colorado State picked up a big pledge here.
