Notre Dame needed all the depth it could find on offense after averaging only 417.6 total yards per game last season on its way to a 4-8 record. Freshman running back C.J. Holmes was added on National Signing Day in hopes to alleviate the problem, but it looks like he will have to wait on his chance now after suffering an injury during spring practice.

Per Brian Kelly, freshman RB CJ Holmes seperated his shoulder. Probably out for the rest of the spring. MRI coming soon.

The 4-star recruit from Connecticut was the No. 20 running back in the 2017 recruiting class according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings. Holmes was predicted by Irish247 to be the fourth-string running back behind guys like Josh Adams, Dexter Williams and Tony Jones Jr. so it's not too great a hit right now anyway.
