The 2017 NFL Draft was filled with surprises in the first round and, while almost every year can say that, this particular edition was utterly wild in some ways. One of the more surprising occurrences came in the form of the Kansas City Chiefs trading up to select former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The problem, though, is that someone forgot to tell ESPN, who was... televising the draft itself.
It is probably a little bit strong to suggest that ESPN "fired the wrong people" given their recent layoffs but this was a big-time blunder. Quite obviously, Texas Tech is a member of the Big 12 and, well, Mahomes came flying off the board with the No. 10 overall pick, arguably the biggest move on the draft's first day.
In short order, ESPN apparently attempted to cover for themselves to some extent, using the same image to promote a different piece of social media with regard to Oklahoma and Texas on Friday morning.
In the grand scheme of things, this hiccup did not hurt anyone but it does make the worldwide leader look quite bad in retrospect. Patrick Mahomes may never justify the No. 10 overall pick in the NFL Draft but the Kansas City Chiefs are all in on him and they at least remembered that he played in the Big 12.
