According to the Lansing State Journal, Michigan State filed a lawsuit against ESPN after the company submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain police reports regarding sexual assault allegations involving three Michigan State football players.

Michigan State suspended three unnamed football players in February after the sexual assault allegations were announced.
ESPN filed the FOIA on Feb. 10, and the school gave the company some of the documents. They weren't given all of the documents because charges hadn't been issued yet.
The school said it was put in an "impossible position" because they were asked to release documents to ESPN, but the county prosecutor wanted them to withhold records. The school asked the Court of Claims to decide whether the police reports can be withheld through an exemption in the FOIA.
A rough stretch for ESPN is only getting worse—even if they win the lawsuit.
