NFL wideout throws former coaching staff under the bus for blowing postseason leads

He let him have it.

Wideout Greg Jennings was a hero during his time with the Green Bay Packers. Nowadays, he may not even be lucky enough to be loaned a ticket to see a game at Lambeau.

In seven seasons with the Pack, Jennings caught 6,537 yards and 53 touchdowns. He was a huge part of the Packers' Super Bowl run — he caught a touchdown in their win over the Steelers — and was generally a fan favorite during his time with the organization.

And then, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay's heated rivals. He also had some less-than-flattering words about Aaron Rodgers, which is a no-no in Green Bay.

Those two events alone put Jennings on the "naughty list" for Packers fans, this, despite how big of a role he played in the team's success from 2006-2012.

With that all in mind, almost not surprisingly, Jennings is at it again — Packer bashing with the best of them. Recently appearing on FS1's Undisputed, the former Green Bay wideout basically threw his old head coach, Mike McCarthy, under the bus.

Here's what he had to say, as transcribed by Will Brinson of CBS Sports:

"The year we won [a Super Bowl] we had a great defense. The year after it took a step back. For me the issue is kind of two-sided. I'm just going to flat out say it: if we had a lead, our issue wasn't the defense, it was Mike McCarthy," Jennings said on Fox Sports 1's Undisputed. "Because he would cuff us. If you watch New England play, when they have a lead, they go for your throat. They have a great quarterback. They have arguably the best quarterback in football, but they have no doubt the best coach in all of football and probably the best coaching staff in all of football as well."

To be fair to McCarthy, there have been many Green Bay fans over the years who have taken the same issue with the head coach. For as good as he's been as head man of the Packers — he has an 114-61-1 record in 11 seasons, including the aforementioned Super Bowl win — he has been accused of being conservative, especially considering all the weapons Green Bay has possessed.

Perhaps the biggest example of this was when Green Bay blew a 19-7 lead against the Seattle Seahawks in the 2015 NFC Championship Game. That was a lead the Packers possessed with 5:13 to go in the game, mind you, and McCarthy taking his foot off the gas offensively, despite possessing Rodgers at quarterback, was easily one of the main reasons Green Bay lost. Keep in mind, the Packers took at 16-0 lead going into halftime of that game. They ended up losing, 28-22, in overtime.

McCarthy hasn't been perfect in Green Bay and if the Pack goes into 2017 with Rodgers at quarterback (they are) and leave the season with no more championships to show for it, there's a decent chance Green Bay's brass decides to move on from the long-time coach.

So yeah, Jennings has a good point. It may not win him back any more fans over in Green Bay, though.
