After spending the last six seasons in the NFL, Patriots wide receiver Andrew Hawkins announced on Tuesday that he was retiring.
"Basically I just got off the phone with the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick, and have informed them of my decision to retire and hang up the cleats."
Hawkins, 31, made the decision after he says that his body did not respond the way it needed to for training camp after OTAs this year.
In his career, Hawkins played for the Bengals and the Browns before signing with the Patriots this offseason. Hawkins has over 200 receptions in his career, going for 2,419 yards and nine touchdowns. He has recently received a master's degree from Columbia University.
