Michigan had its starter at quarterback all last year with redshirt junior Wilton Speight taking the job at the outset of the season. It would seem that his job isn't safe according to coach Jim Harbaugh. While at Big Ten Media days, Harbaugh described the competition between Speight, John O'Korn and Brandon Peters as a "dead heat" so far this summer.

Here's what he said about the QB situation, as transcribed by SEC Country:
"Wilton's in a good spot. He comes in really tied for first with John O'Korn and Brandon Peters. Legitimately, through competition, throughout all the spring, went through 15 practices and was a dead heat," Harbaugh said. "But the good news is they all did some things that really ... Brandon really shot up, John O'Korn really played consistently good and Wilton really had some impressive moments as well."
Speight passed for 2,538 yards, 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions last season while leading the Wolverines to a 10-3 record while O'Korn saw limited action in eight games. He completed 20 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns in 2016, including getting the start against Indiana when Speight's collarbone and neck injury wouldn't let him play.
Most people would have assumed that the job was Speight's to lose as he's an incumbent starter and there's no sign or reports of him making some sort of serious digression due to his injury. Without knowing it or meaning to, Harbaugh might have just created a quarterback controversy by saying all three guys are on equal ground despite Speight having shown he's more than capable of leading the team to wins.
