On Friday, Georgia Tech announced that they had dismissed starting running back Dedrick Mills after a violation of team rules.
Mills led Georgia Tech last year with 771 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns as a true freshman. However, this was third strike for Mills in his short time at Georgia Tech, as he was suspended for three games total last year for what Georgia Tech labelled as violations of team rules.
Mills was Georgia Tech's top returning offensive player with the departure of quarterback Justin Thomas. Mills — as the team's B-back in the option formation — was also at the team's most important position as they try and break in a new quarterback for the upcoming season. Instead, the Yellow Jackets will now try to break in two new starters in the most important positions in their option offense.
Georgia Tech opens the season on Sept. 4 in Atlanta against Tennessee.
