Anything can and does happen on the college football recruiting trail, and that's why it's not all that surprising that four-star wide receiver Josh Vann has committed to South Carolina just over a month after he said that South Carolina no longer led in his commitment.

To be fair, back in July, Vann told 247Sports that South Carolina no longer led, but was instead tied with the Georgia Bulldogs. That's a bit different than saying a team is completely out or no longer in consideration, but it was still a notable development at the time.
Here's what he told Kipp Adams of 247Sports in July:
"I know I have said before that South Carolina led, but honestly, that is no longer the case," Vann said. "I would just say they are tied. I cannot really name a leader anymore."
That has obviously changed in a big way in the last month because Vann is now officially with the Gamecocks. He told 247Sports that South Carolina made a comeback in late July at a recruiting cookout and he waited until after the first game of his senior year to make the decision public. In that game, he scored three touchdowns including a 79-yard reception of the catch-and-run variety.
All-in-all, Vann is a big pickup for South Carolina. According to 247Sports, he's ranked as the No. 14 wide receiver in the 2018 class as well as the No. 12 recruit from the state of Georgia, perhaps the most talent-rich state in the country in terms of high school football.
As it currently stands, Vann is South Carolina's highest-rated 2018 commitment.
