Texas is getting picked on yet again thanks to this comment from their coordinator

Texas is getting picked on yet again.

The Texas Longhorns were heavily criticized for a listless defensive performance in a lopsided home loss to the Maryland Terrapins. Not only was Tom Herman's team soundly outplayed, the Terps entered the game as nearly a three-touchdown underdog and any talk of Texas suddenly generating a fantastic team-wide performance in 2017 virtually evaporated.

However, someone forgot to tell Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando.

On Friday, Orlando declared to Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman that the team's upcoming game "is going to show everybody in the country if Texas has the grit to win a championship." While that sounds a lot like coach-speak, the humor comes in the fact that the Longhorns... are taking on San Jose State this week.

With all due respect to the Spartans, there isn't much to glean about Texas being championship worthy based on the team's showing against San Jose State and the smattering of jokes from the internet was swift.

These are just a handful of the attempts at humor in response to the quote from Orlando and, in short, this quote didn't age well whatsoever. Texas will likely look better against a team with (far) less talent on the field but, at the end of the day, Herman and Orlando (among others) will be judged on Big 12 competition and not what takes place this week.
