Lane Kiffin may not have left Alabama on the greatest of terms, which isn't a huge surprise, but the current Florida Atlantic head coach is still sticking up for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama is currently ranked No. 1 in the college football playoff rankings — again, not a surprise — but the Crimson Tide and its schedule have been a sticking point with pundits as of late. Sure, Nick Saban's team has rolled to an undefeated 11-0 record, but three of those wins have come against teams like Fresno State, Colorado State, and Mercer.
Still, recently talking with Paul Finebaum on the radio, Kiffin defended the Crimson Tide. Here's what he said, via SECCountry:
"All these people blow me away. Pay attention," Kiffin said on The Paul Finebaum Show of those who doubt Alabama. "I think it's ridiculous. You're the champ till you're not."
Those paying attention would point out that Alabama is technically not the champion right now. That honor belongs to the Clemson Tigers, who beat the Crimson Tide in last season's national championship game.
With that said, it's hard to deny that Saban and the Crimson Tide are the top dogs of college football. He's arguably the greatest coach of all-time and he's built a modern-day dynasty at Alabama — a stint that includes four national championships.
Alabama has also won the past three SEC championships, so technically speaking, at least from an SEC perspective, Kiffin is correct. The Crimson Tide may not have played the toughest schedule in the country, but it's hard to deny the fact that Alabama is one of the favorites to win it all once again.
