Lane Kiffin responds to story of him “waiting by the phone” for Tennessee job

Lane Kiffin wasn't going to take that lying down.

Tennessee needs a football coach and the Greg Schiano saga is only the beginning for what kind of tumult could be occurring in Knoxville until the Vols make a long-awaited hire. In the meantime, though, Lane Kiffin is back in the news and he is, well, being Lane Kiffin.

Following the Schiano fiasco, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports penned a column entitled, "As Tennessee again finds itself engulfed in flames, Lane Kiffin waits by his phone" and, within it, included the following excerpt.

Listen up, Vols. Kiffin wants to drive your car. Again. He'd tell you that, I bet.

All Tennessee has to do is call him. A coach who played the Vols like a violin for one season in 2009 before bolting for USC looks like the voice of reason these days. Can all be forgiven?

On cue, Kiffin responded with a not so subtle jab in the direction of Dodd and the entire idea.

In the end, Dodd is probably correct in suggesting that Kiffin would like to get back into the mainstream again and it would be very difficult to accomplish that at his current home of FAU. Still, it is perfectly on-brand for Kiffin to fire back in this way via social media and he certainly enjoys the attention that comes along with poking the bear, both at his former employer of Tennessee and the big-picture idea that he would be "waiting by his phone" to flee for a different job.
