Report: Alabama could lose a key staffer to the NFL

The Tide may take a hit days after winning the national title.

Alabama athletic director for recruiting Ed Marynowitz is reportedly in discussions with the Oakland Raiders and new head coach Jon Gruden about a position in their personnel department, according to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, following an initial report by Zach Barnett of Football Scoop that claimed Marynowitz was expected to leave the school.

Marynowitz, who had previously worked for the Tide as its director of player personnel from 2008-12, returned to the program in June 2016 after spending several years with the Philadelphia Eagles before being terminated in December 2015.

Here's how Barnett described Marynowitz's role at current Alabama:

"Marynowitz holds a key off-the-field role for the Crimson Tide. As associate AD for football, he serves as a point person between the player personnel and football operations departments while also serving as the football program's liaison with the athletic administration.

"Marynowitz is in his second stint with the Crimson Tide. He joined the program in December 2008 as director of player personnel, helping ramp up the dynasty that continues to this day."

The staffer had previously worked as the Eagles' vice president of player personnel during his final season after initially starting as the franchise's assistant director of pro scouting and later assistant director of player personnel.

Marynowitz's NFL experience includes working with the Miami Dolphins under general manager Jeff Ireland and executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells.

His job included working in both the pro and college scouting departments, assisting with advanced scouting of opponents, evaluation of both draft eligible college prospects and NFL free agents and numerous other front office duties, according to RollTide.com.
