This report comes via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The outlet states that the only thing that needs to be done to finalize the deal is an approval of the contract.
Many projected either Fichtner or offensive line coach Mike Munchak to get the gig. Neither have any coordinator experience, but with Munchak turning down a second interview with the Arizona Cardinals, it was easy to believe the Steelers were aiming for some stability with the staff.
Fichtner, who was one of Mike Tomlin's original coaching staff members, would make five of Pittsburgh's last eight offensive coordinator hires come from within the franchise. Whether or not you agree with the tactic, it is that sort of consistency in hiring practices that helps in making the Steelers one of the best franchises in the entire National Football League.
