The NBA Finals has proven so far that Steph Curry isn't the best shooter of all-time.
In reality, Curry never was.
And no one wants to see regular-season numbers and meaningless percentages in games that ultimately don't matter.
The whole conversation, proclamation was premature. It's sports in 2015. It's dead wrong. Everything is not the greatest because you saw it yesterday.
Everything has to be in context. Curry, a Golden State Warriors guard, can't be considered the greatest shooter ever because he's never even made a big shot in his career on the biggest stage.
And those desperation threes by Curry in the fourth quarter of Game 3's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night didn't prove anything, either.
Often, clutch moments count more than all the shots someone can make in a regular season (or during practice) with no pressure attached.
Curry simply could be a going through a great five-year stretch shooting the basketball. No one would pooh-pooh what he's accomplished.
But this rush to anoint Curry is just silly.
In Game 2, Curry was 2-for-15 from three-point land, setting an NBA Finals record for most misses in a game.
The problem is there are so many fans out there disguised as sports reporters. They have no formal training, haven't been to J-school. In fact, they have never covered anything.
They have a 60-inch TV, a laptop and a phony blog nobody reads.
It doesn't mean Curry is a bum and can't shoot. It's just that the rush to crown someone a GOAT this quickly is comical.
The same thing happened with LeBron James. So many tried to lift him over Michael Jordan before James even won a title.
Despite his incredible numbers, no one considers Dan Marino the greatest QB ever. He never won a Super Bowl.
The Buffalo Bills aren't considered the greatest team in Super Bowl history. After all, they went to the Super Bowl four straight years. That's an unbelievable feat. Oh wait, they lost all four.
Yes, winning a title matters, moves you to the front of the line.
If the Warriors had Larry Bird, Ray Allen or Reggie Miller, they'd probably be up 3-0 in the NBA Finals instead of down, 2-1.
Hence, until further notice, let's stop the Curry-GOAT chatter. It sounds dumb.
