David Ferrer, a veteran Formula 1 driver, died from injuries he sustained in an accident during a race in Europe over the weekend.

Ferrer was racing in the Zandvorrt Historic Grand Prix in the Netherlands when he crashed his March 701 in the FIA Masters Historic Formula 1 race. The wreck was so bad Ferrer had to be resuscitated on the track. He was airlifted t a trauma hospital, where he died.
In a video on the Netherlands news site NH, it appears as if the race car was shattered in impact.
The Grand Prix issued a statement on its website that said:
Management and staff of Circuit Zandvoort and organisers of the Historic Grand Prix, received the news that French driver, David Ferrer, has passed away in hospital, aged 62.
We extend our sincere condolences to David Ferrer's family and friends.
