On Wednesday, British singer and songwriter Calum Scott announced via X that his cover of Robyn's "Dancing On My Own" reached 1 billion Spotify streams. In a follow up to his initial post, Smith made sure to send a special thank you to the team who made his song's success possible.
1,000,000,000 streams of my version of ‘Dancing On My Own’ on @Spotify - a ‘thank you’ just doesn’t seem grateful enough but trust me, I am. 🥹 pic.twitter.com/sCcbaBs7jp

"A HUGE thank you has to go to @Phillies also for making this song their anthem two years running. It's an honour boys and I'm incredibly grateful to the players, the club and most importantly the fans. X".
As Smith alluded to, the Phillies have turned his cover "Dancing On My Own" into their clubhouse celebration anthem for the past two seasons. After the song became a staple at Citizens Bank Park — and throughout Philadelphia — last October, the Phillies initially "retired" their adopted anthem after losing in the 2022 World Series to the Houston Astros, because it was, "a second-place song," according to Kyle Schwarber.

Yet, after a tough start to the 2023 season and an uncharacteristically quiet clubhouse environment, the team re-adopted Smith's 'Dancing On My Own' as their official anthem following a win on June 4. Since that point, the Phillies have gone 70-41 and are now two wins away from returning to the World Series.
Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long explained to MLB.com why "Dancing On My Own" had to be brought back — and why it keeps producing wins.
"[That song] just might be a part of everything that goes on here," Long said. "It's part of being a Philadelphia Phillie. So those [new] guys that weren't here [in 2022]; it doesn't matter. This is part of who we are. So let's just play the song. Let's not try to find a new song. We have a song. The song works and everybody jives with it. Everybody likes it. Everybody gets a good feeling from it."
Yet, the song's success isn't only owed to the Phillies clubhouse. The entire city of Philadelphia has adopted "Dancing On My Own" during the past two years; proven by Smith's song becoming Philly's No. 1 song at bars, weddings, and at Citizens Bank Park last fall during their initial World Series run.
Clearly the "City of Brotherly Love" embracing Smith's song for a second straight season is a large part of why its streaming success. Yet, while Smith didn't thank Philly fans specifically, they probably don't mind. Phillies players playing the song after each playoff win is all the thanks they need.
