Kim Mulkey Slams Players After LSU's Upset Loss to Colorado

The latest women's college basketball season is off to a dramatic start as No. 1 LSU faltered at home, losing 92-78 to the No. 20 Colorado Buffaloes, and Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey had some choice words for her squad after the game.

"I'm disappointed by some players that I thought would be tougher, but when you play a team that has that level of experience, I wasn't surprised," Mulkey said.

Matthew Brune, who covers LSU for On3, added that Mulkey said Mikaylah Williams and S'Myah Smith "brought the fight."

"I thought [Williams] and Sa'Myah Smith did all they could," she said. "You're talking about a true freshman and a true sophomore. We need more than just them to have a little bit of fight," Mulkey said about those players.

Williams played 31 minutes, scored 14 points and had four rebounds. Smith added 16 points and five rebounds in 26 minutes.

Their star, Angel Reese, played 30 minutes and had 15 points, 12 rebounds, and one assist.

Mulkey added, "I don't think anything this summer effected us in that locker room. I think that locker room was impacted by Colorado being a darn good team."

When discussing the film review of the game, Mulkey said, "It will be a come to Jesus moment."

"You live with poor shooting, you live with a tough night offensively. What I don't live with is just guts and fight and physical play [not being there]. I just didn't think we had that tonight. This is not going to devastate us. Chicken Little said the sun will come out tomorrow, didn't he?" Mulkey also said in the post-game press conference.

While LSU was No. 1, the Buffaloes are no slouch. They made it to the Sweet 16 last season but lost to Iowa, the national championship runner-up.

The Tigers will have a chance to get back on track on Thursday at home against Queens University of Charlotte.
