Reality Star Chip Gaines Tweets Kentucky Fans About Scott Drew As Coach

Chip Gaines has made a lot of money fixing up stuff. Now, he thinks he can fix Kentucky basketball.

Or at least has a coach to recommend after John Calipari left for Arkansas. That would be no less than Baylor coach Scott Drew, who reportedly is struggling with the decision on whether to bolt the Bears for the Wildcats.

Gaines and wife Joanna are the stars of the HGTV smash hit Fixer Upper. Gaines and his wife also just happen to be Baylor alums. So Chip is a strong supporter of Drew, who coached Baylor to the NCAA championship in 2021.

"The show is so successful they've been able to start their own media brand, Magnolia, which includes a magazine, TV network, app, real estate brokerage, and the Hearth & Hand home decor collection for Target," wrote Tyler Thomspon of On3. "If your television has spent any time on HGTV, you've surely seen them or one of their many shiplap rooms or barndominiums."

Drew's memoir was even published by Magnolia. That shows you how tight he is with the Gaineses.

Anyway, once Kentucky fans (generally known as #BBN, for "Big Blue Nation," on Twitter) started tweeting about Drew, Gaines got involved.

In fact, Gaines got to a point where he even responded to one fan that "the entire population of Kentucky is just a (mid-sized) Texas town."

No one has actually done the research on that, by the way. They were all too busy tweeting about Drew. Some Kentucky fans are in favor of making him the next Wildcats coach. Others, not so much. That's just the way sports fandom goes.  The word fan, after all, is short for fanatic.

And a lot of them act plain crazy.

So when Gaines got into the mix, he got in all the way. But based on his strong and sometimes fun responses, he wasn't in over his head.

Scott Drew? The next Kentucky coach? Chip Gaines thinks he's the man for the job and isn't afraid to tell you.
