Tiger Woods Passes On Offer To Become US Ryder Cup Captain

Tiger Woods will not be the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup squad, and it's because Tiger Woods says so.

Per the Telegraph, Woods has turned down the opportunity to lead the Americans against Europe in 2025 at Bethpage.

"The 48-year-old raised doubts at the US PGA two months ago that he would succeed Zach Johnson, citing his time-exhaustive involvement in the peace negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, which bankrolled LIV," the Telegraph reported.

Woods has been an assistant captain in the past. It seems he is satisfied with that role.

Also, it's not like he's been dominant on the course. At this stage of his career, a captaincy would be more of an honor than something based on his recent play. But he's a legend and that would make it OK. Clearly, though, Woods would rather not.

Per the New York Post:

"PGA Tour veteran Stewart Cink, who won the 2009 British Open, could now land the position, according to the Telegraph. Davis Love III, who captained the squads in 2012 and 2016, and Fred Couples are also possibilities."

The official captain announcement will come on Tuesday, July 9.

Either way, the US will be looking for a bounce-back after being dominated by the Europeans in September in Rome. They claimed a 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 win over the Zach Johnson-led USA team.
