Dylan Cease, starting pitcher for the San Diego Padres, completed the second no-hitter in franchise history during a 3-0 win vs the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon. To note, the 28-year-old pitched 114 pitches across nine innings, recording nine strikeouts, while giving up three walks.

Dylan Cease was mobbed by his teammates after his complete-game pitching gem, as the only other time that the Padres recorded a no-hitter was on April 9, 2021 when Joe Musgrove was one "hit batter" away from a perfect game (10 K's, 0 walks, 0 hits allowed).
There were no signs of fatigue as Cease actually topped off at 100 mph during the ninth inning on his 110th pitch.
Dylan Cease says he started thinking of the no-hitter after the 6th inning, and lobbied heavily after the 7th inning to stay in the game.

Notably, Cease was eager in his attempt to achieve history, as some might remember on September 3, 2022 he was one out away from a no-hit complete game, when his now current teammate Luis Arráez singled to right-center field.

That is to say, after giving up his only hit with two outs in the ninth inning, Cease said, "It's an incredibly difficult feat to achieve. It definitely would have meant a lot."
With this in mind, fast forward to two years later, Cease didn't let his chance go to waste the second time around, as he accomplished his first career no-hitter.

This is the second no-hitter thrown during the 2024 MLB season, as Houston Astros pitcher Ronel Blanco threw nine innings with zero hits allowed (7 K's, 2 walks) in a 10-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on April 1.
Cease now has a 10-8 record on the year, with a 3.50 ERA and career-best 0.98 WHIP.
