Olympics Analyst Removed From Coverage After Sexist Remark About Women's Swimmers

Eurosport swimming analyst Bob Ballard has been removed from Olympics coverage after what was called a sexist remark about Team Australia swimmers, per the New York Post.

"During a segment of Eurosport's coverage last night, commentator Bob Ballard made an inappropriate comment," Eurosport said in a statement, via The Independent. "To that end, he has been removed from our commentary roster with immediate effect."

Ballard was commenting on the end of the event when he said, "Well, the women just finishing up. You know what women are like ... hanging around, doing their make-up."

No less than his co-commenter was upset.

Per Australian news service news.com.au: "Ballard attempted to laugh off the remark, but co-commentator Lizzie Simmonds immediately called it 'outrageous' as the moment went viral."

Added the Post: "Ballard himself has yet to comment on the affair, though he took to X to wish Eurosport's Laura Winter luck ahead of Sunday night's session in the pool."

Ballard has been a longtime color commentator at the Olympics, particularly when it comes to swimming and diving. He has also served as a broadcaster during coverage of Olympics basketball, hockey and cricket, among others. He has a lengthy career at BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Behind the team of Emma McKeon, Shayna Jack, Mollie O'Callaghan and Meg Harris, Australia notched its fourth consecutive gold in the 4?—100, easily beating the American team, which won silver," the Post wrote. "China finished third to win bronze."
